Awards Programme

Here at Scotland's Finest Woods we are doing our bit to highlight all that is best in Scotland's management of its woods and forests and showcase how they contribute to the wealth and wellbeing of Scotland's people.

Following the success of our updated awards programme in 2011 we are introducing fresh innovations for 2012 as well.

The following prize competitions are now open for entry:

The ever-popular Schools Award is back and we are seeking out Scotland's most fun-packed school woodland projects: £500 will be awarded to the winner with £250 for the runner-up.

A special Community Woodlands Award focusing on the Central Scotland Green Network (CSGN) area: the Tim Stead Trophy and £2,000 will be awarded to Central Scotland's best community project with £1,000 for the runner-up.

A New Native Woods Award: the Woodland Trust Scotland Trophy and £500 will be awarded to the winning woodland with £250 for the runner-up.

A Quality Timber Awards category with three competitions:

- one for new commercial woods: the new James Jones Trophy and £1,000 will be awarded to the winner. New category!

- one for small woods, a single stand or compartment of trees: the Hunter Blair Trophy and £1,000 will be awarded to the winner.

- one for whole estates: the John Kennedy Trophy and £1,000 will be awarded to the winner.

The closing date for entries is 31st March 2012 and short-listed entries will be judged between 30th April and 11th May.

The winners will be presented with their prizes on Friday 22nd June 2012 at the Royal Highland Show. Additional presentations can be made on site to the winners of the Tim Stead Trophy and Schools Award so that all those involved can join the celebrations.
